Gallo Blanco

I've heard many a person endorse the huevos rancheros at Gallo Blanco. Satisfying and savory, it doesn't disappoint. It's my go-to menu option.

Salsa poured over fried eggs atop a quesadilla, with beans on the side.

I recently decided to try something different. The chilaquiles verdes were calling my name. I chose vegetables over chicken.

The dish seemed similar to the huevos rancheros except without the beans and quesadilla. While it was delicious, next time I will go back to my usual pick.

Suggested plan: Brunch at Gallo Blanco and a day at the Clarendon's pool. Also check out Sutra Midtown's occasional rooftop yoga classes.

Spring training 2012: Milwaukee Brewers vs. Texas Rangers at Maryvale Baseball Park

It alternated between sunny and cloudy on March 18.

I checked out Maryvale Baseball Park as part of my quest to watch a baseball game at each of the spring-training stadiums in the Valley. The game was fun to watch while it lasted. Being rained out of a game is a first for me, especially during March in Phoenix, when I usually complain of the temperatures being a little too high after an afternoon of sitting in the sun. But one thing lacking at the stadium is any shade cover, which would have come in handy when the crowds rushed out of the stands in search of respite from the rain. And because it wasn't immediate clear where to park, or maybe to avoid paying for parking, some people just parked on a neighboring street or empty lot next to what appeared to be an empty building.

Spring training 2012: White Sox vs. Padres at Peoria Sports Complex

I checked out of one of the spring-training facilities I hadn't been to yet to see the San Diego Padres take on the Chicago White Sox. Peoria Sports Complex is in the busy Bell Road corridor in Peoria, near Arrowhead Towne Center.
Padres vs. White Sox on March 13. Lawn seats are $6.

TIPS: Bring cash, because concession stands were cash only, and parking was $5. There were no places to park for free nearby that I could find. (The shopping center across the street had a sign limiting parking to one hour.) Salty Senorita next door was offering specials and parking in its lot if you dine there.

Spring training 2012: White Sox batting practice at Camelback Ranch

If you want to catch batting and infield practice or snag a photo or autograph with a White Sox player, get  to Camelback Ranch Glendale by 10 a.m. Practice usually starts around 10:15. The Los Angeles Dodgers practice on the other side of the complex.

Spring training 2012: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Oakland Athletics

It's the most wonderful time of the year in the Valley: spring training! And the weather has been gorgeous. I'd recommend showing up for batting practice at Camelback Ranch around 10:15 a.m. before each game. You might even snag an autograph or picture with a player.
