Arizona Rattlers postseason game

The only suitable word to describe the crowd at my first Rattlers arena-football game is electric. And plenty of pyrotechnics accompany the hollering fans. The first canonlike sound that emanated from the arena had me jumping from my seat. But as the game went on, I got more comfortable and excited about the outcome.
Overall it was a fun, exciting experience. I will be back next season. Congratulations to the Rattlers on going on to become Arena Bowl champs!

Chase Field: Astros vs. D-Backs

I'm not what some may call a seat snob -- I think most seats at Chase Field are good and am happy just to be in the ballpark to watch the Diamondbacks play. I recently took advantage of cheap prices on upper-level seats on StubHub to snag a couple of tickets. We were in the second row of Section 302, with no one occupying the seats below us, and the views were great!

The Astros vs. D-Backs game was nowhere near being sold-out. But it was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I am excited to watch more games in September. And probably in the cheap seats!

Central Avenue Farmers Market

On a recent Saturday I checked out the offerings at the Central Avenue Farmers Market on Northern  and Central avenues. There is a world of difference in quality and taste of the produce from stores that I have shopped at and this farmers market.

For about $40 I got all this and some bananas (not pictured).
I purchased strawberries, cherries, avocados, tomatoes, spinach, green beans, red and green peppers, broccoli, lettuce, kale, carrots a cucumber, an onion and a banana. Not bad at all!

Check out the Central Avenue Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays until September. And don't worry about braving the heat, since half of it is indoors. Need cash? The "ATM" worker can swipe your card and give you tokens to use (in denominations of $10). I was then given change in cash from vendors. There was a $1 optional donation to use this service.

I will be getting my produce from this market from now on!

Butcher Jones Recreation Area

I recently discovered Butcher Jones Recreation Area near Mesa. It's a great spot to cool off this summer, if you don't mind sharing the beach with lots of families there to swim and picnic.

My advice is to bring rafts and swim out farther than the little kids. You won't feel as crowded.
From the water you can see families hanging out on the beach at Butcher Jones Recreation Area.
The scenery was lovely on a recent stormy day.
Many families bring shade tents and spend the day on the water.

Before you go: Make sure to buy a $6 recreation pass at the Walgreens on Power Road once you exit the freeway.

See the Tonto National Forest website for more information.

Luncha Libre food truck

A recent lunch at Food Truck Friday has me obsessed with the Luncha Libre food truck. I never expected to find such delicious gourmet food prepared in a truck! And it's fun to order too, with a lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) theme and fun drinks to accompany the food.

Craving a tasty and filling lunch? Follow Luncha Libre on Twitter to find out where the truck will be. On the day I wanted lunch, it was at Urban Cookies on Seventh Street and Camelback Road.

The Luncha Libre truck is parked outside Urban Cookies in Phoenix.
I ordered the Papa Verde, which has chiles, cheese and potatoes. Delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I also tried some of the chicken torta, which I think is enhanced with the guacamole. Yum!
I would recommend Food Truck Friday and this truck in particular, but if you're looking for a shorter line, follow the truck elsewhere. Next time I will try their drinks, which are served in cute mason jars. Happy eating!
