Half-Marathon Training, Week 10

This week of half-marathon training was a catch-up week. I missed my 12-miler last week and had an 8-miler scheduled for Week 10, but I wanted to see if I could do 12 instead. Weather in Chicago went from 70s and sunny on Monday to 40s and cloudy/rainy every other day. This hurt my motivation. I managed to pull through by keeping most of my workouts indoors. Here's how Week 10 of training went:

Monday: Rest day.

Tuesday: 2.5 miles at Orangetheory. We did three blocks on the treadmill: 5 minutes, 4 minutes and 3 minutes. Each ended with a 30-second all-out. My last one was at 7:53 per mile pace, which I was happy with.

Floor exercises included:
  • Hammer curls
  • Bicep curls on TRX straps
  • Tricep pushups
  • Plank jacks
  • Elbow to planks
  • 4 350-meter rows
  • 35 squats
  • 35 pulse squats
Wednesday: 1.35 miles at Orangetheory.

We did a run/row with lots of inclines. It was:

  • .25 mile run with 3 percent incline at a push pace
  • 200-meter row
  • 30-second all-out
  • 200-meter row
  • .2 mile run with 5 percent incline at a push pace
  • 150-meter row
  • 45-second all-out
  • 150-meter row
  • .15 mile run with 7 percent incline at a base pace
  • 100-meter row
Floor exercises included:
  • Chest press on bench
  • Lunges with foot on bench
  • Tricep extensions with TRX straps
  • Squats to high rows with weights
  • On bench, weights above chest to overhead
  • Plank to low rows with weights
  • 2-minute plank

Thursday: Rest day.

Friday: 1 mile plus 30 minutes of yoga at home.

Saturday: 1.4 mile run plus core work: hip raise, single-leg V-ups, crunches and bicycle crunches.

Sunday: 11 miles. It was a chilly, cloudy day in Chicago, and I had little motivation. I meant to run at 10 a.m. but I didn't make it out the door until almost noon. But I did it! My running app malfunctioned during the first 1.25 miles, so the distance is an estimate.

Week's mileage: 17.25
Yoga minutes: 40

Reflections

While I didn't make it to 26.2 miles at Orangetheory this month, I am glad I participated in the OTF Marathon. The money I paid is going to Care for Real, a non-profit. I know all that sweat was for a good cause!

I didn't intend for most of the week's workouts to be indoors, but I also didn't think it would be this chilly at the end of April. I would much rather go to Orangetheory on cold days than have a miserable run. I'm ready for warmer weather. Come on, Chicago!

Also, you know you really love exercise when you become upset that your workout plans are derailed. Some people would cheer for this!

What are your workout goals? Let me know in the comments!
