Tuesday Tidbits: Screenshots and Thoughts

I don't have a lot of bandwidth left after traveling to Phoenix over the weekend and flying back to Chicago on little sleep and with a sore body. For now, here are some thoughts that came up this weekend:
  • I am listening to "Year of Yes: How to Dance it Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person" by Shonda Rhimes (affiliate), the creator/boss lady behind"Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice," "Scandal," and more. I am loving her take on introversion and learning to become more comfortable with things that make you uncomfortable. I gravitated to her book for that very reason: I am an introvert as well and I constantly challenge myself to do things that terrify me, such as becoming a yoga teacher, attending meetups, and doing things alone. Also, I feel strongly about many points she makes about being a mother and woman in general. I loved her reminders about not being ashamed or apologetic about your successes but rather receiving compliments with a simple thank you. I need to do this more.
  • When I boarded the plane to Phoenix, I had the row of seats to myself. A man across the aisle immediately saw this and decided to switch over to my side. He then proceeded to place his belongings, including greasy food, on the empty middle seat between us. I found his sense of entitlement quite annoying, but I tuned it out by listening to "Year of Yes." Also, I flew with Frontier Airlines for the first time, and it brought back memories of when I flew Spirit Airlines and was stuck in Dallas for a day. The seats were equally thin and uncomfortable, and I ended up with back pain all weekend. I promise you I have learned my lesson and plan to stop torturing myself via picking undesirable flight times and airlines.
  • Sometimes I fall into the trap of comparing my progress with others' and lately I've needed reminders that I need to turn comparison into inspiration. I've written about goal-setting and manifesting in the past and now's the perfect time to remind myself to trust the process. If I want to do something, I can make it happen.
